Wisconsin: Water

The Department of Natural Resources proposed revisions to regulations governing the control of lead and copper in public drinking water. The revisions would align the regulations to be consistent with the federal Lead and Copper Rule and the anticipated 2024 Lead and Copper Rule Improvements. A hearing will be held January 9, 2024. Comments are due the same date.

Wisconsin: Governance

The Department of Natural Resources proposed amendments to regulations governing investigation and remediation of environmental contamination. The amendments would, among other things, outline procedures and requirements for continuing obligations before closure, with a focus on reporting, database entry and tracking, and department service fees; clarify requirements for the long-term management of continuing obligations, and implement changes made under 2015 Wisconsin Act 204 relating to continuing obligations imposed at all stages of cleanup.

Wisconsin: Governance

The Department of Natural Resources proposed amendments to regulations governing investigation and remediation of environmental contamination. The amendments would increase clarity and provide consistency between state and federal regulations for the definitions, procedures, and standards for the cleanup of contaminated soil. A hearing was held December 21, 2023.

Washington: Water

The Department of Ecology adopted amendments to regulations governing water quality standards for surface waters. The amendments, among other things, change definitions, revise rules related to Tier III protection of outstanding resource waters (ORWs), designate specific water bodies as Tier III(A) or Tier III(B) ORWs with varying levels of protection, prohibit certain activities that would lead to pollution in ORWs, and modify the consultation process with tribes.

Washington: Air

The Department of Ecology adopted amendments to regulations governing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and the air quality fee rule. The amendments, among other things, set maximum global warming potential thresholds for HFCs in various applications, establish a refrigerant management program with registration and reporting requirements for owners/operators of large systems, mandate service practices for technicians, amend product labeling and disclosure requirements and establish fees to cover the costs of implementing and enforcing the refrigerant management program.

Tennessee: Water

The Board of Water Quality, Oil, and Gas adopted amendments to regulations governing general water quality criteria and use classifications for surface waters. The amendments revise provisions on general considerations, criteria for water uses, definitions, interpretation of criteria, antidegradation, and the use classifications for several river basins.
