EPA proposed to extend the effective date of the "Water Quality Standards for the State of Florida's Lakes and Flowing Waters; Final Rule" until October 6, 2012, and seeks public comment on an extension to July 6, 2013.

United States v. City of Unalaska, No. 3:11-cv-00133-HRH (D. Alaska May 10, 2012). A settling CWA defendant responsible for violations at its wastewater treatment plant in Unalaska, Alaska, must pay a $340,000 civil penalty, must construct and operate four upgrades to comply with its NPDES permit, and must adhere to more stringent fecal coliform bacteria limits until at least mid-2020. 

EPA promulgated technology-based effluent limitations guidelines and new source performance standards under the CWA for discharges from airport deicing operations.

EPA announced the availability of TMDLs for waters listed in Utah under CWA §303(d)(2).

United States v. Trident Seafoods Corp., No. 11-1616 (W.D. Wash. Apr. 26, 2012). A settling CWA defendant responsible for violations at its seafood processing facilities must pay a $2.5 million civil penalty and must perform specified injunctive measures to reduce processing wastes and sea floor waste piles.

United States v. E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., No. 6:12-cv-01146-EFM-KMH (D. Kan. Apr. 19, 2012). A settling CWA defendant responsible for natural resource damages must pay $252,739 in natural resource damages and reimbursement of assessment costs.

EPA issued its list of unregulated chemical contaminants and viruses and the methods to be used to monitor them in public water systems.

United States v. City of Memphis, No. 2:10-CV-02083-SHM-dkv (W.D. Tenn. Apr. 16, 2012). A settling CWA defendant responsible for violations concerning its sewer system must pay a $1.29 million civil penalty to the United States and Tennessee and must develop and implement a number of sewer management, operation, and maintenance programs to rehabilitate its system, including an effluent study and a sewer GPS mapping project.
