The U.S. Supreme Court denied the U.S. government's petition for a writ of mandamus in a lawsuit brought by a group of youths challenging the government's failure to act on climate change and asserting the right to a safe climate. The court found that the government's petition was unwarranted because the government can still seek review in the Ninth Circuit as that court has twice denied the government's request for mandamus relief without prejudice. Moreover, the Ninth Circuit's reasons for denying the government's requests are, to a large extent, no longer pertinent. The court therefore denied the government's petition.
