United States v. Duke Energy Corp.

A settling CAA defendant that failed to obtain appropriate permits and failed to install and operate required pollution control devices at several power plants in North Carolina must pay a $975,000 civil penalty, must operate pollution controls and meet interim emission limitations prior to permanently retiring its remaining electricity generating units in 2024, and must spend $4,400,000 to fund environmental mitigation projects to further reduce emissions and benefit communities adversely affected by the pollution.
