An administrative law judge (ALJ) rejects the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) argument that waste stored at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation satisfies the permit exemption requirements of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) § 121(e). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) alleged that DOE violated state hazardous waste regulations by storing drums of dangerous waste without complying with certain pre-permit and permit requirements.
